Adolescence

Unquenched

We hunger for the taste of

Anything but our own tongues,

Leaving us undone,

Drenched in other

Other than our own skin,

Other, other.

We desire other and

Claw at the floorboards to find

Another fix.

Reeling, we

Seek settlement.

Rest isn’t an option. We

Crave anything, any substance,

Any weird, queer feeling,

Any jumping rage. We swallow

And the world seems great again.

Dying, we

Are anything but ancient. With

Every potion, every pill we

Are reborn, crowning

Ourselves gods and goddesses and

Devouring the world as it

Digests us, spits us out and tortures us

With life, and living is so hard to do.

Hungry, hunger drives us closer

To the grave, where we can

Breathe the earth and

Rest,

Finally. Finally soaked

thoroughly in sin, sunken memories.

What’s left of our minds

Stopped from wandering aimlessly.
